Did you know that there is a special day reserved just for hugging cats? There is, and it’s just around the corner: June 4th is Hug Your Cat Day! While we think all our feline friends should be hugged every day, there are some other things you can do to make this day special for your feline friend. Read on as a local Gresham, OR vet lists some great ways to make your kitty feel loved and pampered on this cat-tastic day.
Toys are great for kitties. They offer Fluffy entertainment, and encourage her to get off the couch and move a bit. Pick up a few new playthings for your feline friend. You can get classic cat toys, like catnip birds, or go with something more modern, like a robotic mouse or automated laser pointer.
Kitties are very photogenic! Spend a few minutes getting some photos of your charming pet. Get a cute snapshot of Fluffy meowing at you, or a more serene shot or your furball enjoying a nap. Experiment with a few different effects, like pencil sketches or black and white.
Playing is great for kitties! Spend time controlling a wand toy or laser pointer for your feline buddy to pounce on and chase after. The activity will be great for your furball both physically and mentally. Plus, it will be fun for you, too! After all, it’s hard not to smile when you see Fluffy do that adorable pre-pounce butt wiggle.
Kitties are very diligent about their beauty rituals. That doesn’t mean that your feline friend won’t appreciate a little help, however. Pick a time when your cat is relaxed and sleepy. Brush Fluffy gently, always moving in the direction of her fur. Include cuddles and compliments, so she knows she’s being pampered.
Another great way to activate the purr is to offer your kitty a special treat. Offer Fluffy some canned tuna or salmon; cooked, boneless chicken; or a little deli meat.
As the day winds down, spend some quiet time with your feline friend. If Fluffy is the affectionate type, let her snuggle up on your lap. There are few things more precious than cat purrs!
