5 Pawsome Reasons to Adopt a Shelter Dog
October 1, 2020

October is Adopt A Shelter Dog Month! This is one cause that we are happy to support. The plight of shelter dogs is truly heartbreaking. There are far too many sweet, lovable pups out there, hoping that someone will love them and take them home. If you’re ready for a new pet, please consider getting a shelter dog. A Portland, OR vet lists some reasons to rescue Fido from a shelter below.

Tail Wags

First and foremost, when you adopt from a shelter, you’re really helping an animal in need. We believe that all of our furry friends deserve to be loved and cared for. It’s really a wonderful feeling to know that you’ve saved a cute pup’s life, and given him a wonderful forever home. Don’t think your efforts will go unnoticed. Shelter dogs are often extremely loyal to their saviors!

Help Other Animals

While adopting Fido from a shelter will definitely change his life forever, it’s also benefitting other pets. You’ll be freeing up space in the kennels, and giving another cute pooch a chance to get adopted. Plus, the money you pay for adoption fees will help the shelter provide food, shelter, and care for other homeless animals.

Save Money

Another great reason to go to a shelter? It’s often much cheaper than going through a pet store or breeder. You may also save on veterinary care costs, since many shelter dogs are already fixed and microchipped.

Find The Perfect Pet

Dogs come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, and they sport a variety of hairstyles. Our canine pals also vary widely in personality. Some pups are little cuddlebugs, others are lively and energetic, and some are basically couch potatoes. No matter what kind of dog you’re looking for, you’re likely to find the perfect pup waiting for you. You also get to spend some time with Fido before deciding.

Promote Good Animal Welfare

Pet overpopulation is a huge issue. Sadly, this is a big part of the reason that so many sweet pets are euthanized each year. When you adopt from a shelter, you can rest assured that you aren’t lining the pockets of an unscrupulous breeder or pet store owner. That’s definitely something to feel great about!
