6 Reasons To Adopt A Less Adoptable Pet
October 1, 2021

Adopt A Less Adoptable Pet Week starts September 22nd! This is definitely a topic we are happy to shed some light on. While there are always too many homeless animals out there, hoping that someone will adopt them, some just have a really hard time finding forever homes. Why not give one of these sad, overlooked pets a second chance? Here, a Gresham, OR veterinarian lists some pros of adopting a less adoptable pet.

A Rewarding Experience

Helping animals can be a very deep and profound experience. Many of our most pampered patients had pretty rough journeys before finding their forever homes. You may find that giving that scared, timid dog or that grumpy cat a new lease on life really has a wonderful effect on you as well. It’s an amazing thing to see a lonely pet blossom and thrive with love.

Unconditional Love

Many times, people report that the overlooked pets, the ones nobody wanted, actually turn out to be the most loving and loyal. This isn’t really a surprise: animals always know when someone has helped them, and they tend to be very, very grateful to their owners.

Setting A Good Example

The last few years have been quite turbulent. You may find that doing something good for others can really lift your spirits. This is also a wonderful act of kindness. If you have kids, that’s a great lesson to show them.

Helping Other Animals

Less adoptable pets often spend much more time in shelters than the average dog or cat. By adopting one, you’re actually also helping other homeless pets, both by freeing up space at the shelter, and letting them use their resources to help their next furry ward.

Bonuses

Sometimes, the things that make pets seem unappealing are actually blessings in disguise. For instance, that senior dog won’t need many toys, and won’t tear up your yard. It’s often just a matter of how you look at things.

Purrs And Tail Wags

Less-adoptable pets are often just as lovable and affectionate as any other pet. We know, cuddles, happy dances, and affection from Fido and Fluffy are always great. However, you may find that the displays of love from your new buddy are truly special.
